Montauk, New York
Montauk, commonly referred to as "the end," is just that - the end of Long Island. Montauk is favorited by tourists coming to see the infamous Montauk Lighthouse - The Montauk Point Light was the first lighthouse in New York state and is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States. Montauk boasts 6 state parks. And Montauk is probably the premiere destination for surfers on the east coast.
Montauk's camp Hero State Park, opened in 2002, lined by lush maritime forests, pushes the limits of fun with its endless array of activities including horse riding, cycling, biking, a magnificent picnic spot, surfing, swimming and more!
On the other hand, Ditch Plains Beach, bordered by majestic cliffs soaring high above would stop even the most unromantic in his path. This beach is a surfer's delight.
Fond of boating or kayaking? The Fort Pond Beach at Montauk is just the place for you. Sail dreamily down the crystal clear ocean and allow yourself to be mesmerized by the spectacular sunsets. Gin Beach, positioned at the far end of East Lake Drive, is a family favourite. It is the perfect place to enjoy your solitude, laze in the sun or go on long walks along the soft sandy coast, with the gentle water lapping at your feet.
Drive till the end of the South Edison Street and you would find yourself face-to-face with a nice little beach which houses restaurants and lifeguard services. However, you won't find any restroom or parking space here. Drive down the Montauk highway two and a half miles to the east of it and you can see an astounding piece of natural art called Shadmoor State Park. Soaring clay cliffs grace a pebbled beach, looking out to an endless stretch of crystal blue Atlantic Ocean.
